UK government swaps paper car tax discs for its vast camera network

The paper car tax disc has had a very good innings, but it's finally come to the end of its life. Presented proudly by UK motorists for more than 90 years, those circular bits of paper have today officially been replaced by an electronic register. What does that mean for you? Well, you'll still need to pay for your tax the same way each year, but you'll no longer need to fix the disc to your windscreen, even if it's still yet to expire. Authorities can't now physically check you've paid, instead they'll fully rely on the hundreds of thousands of ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras that adorn Britain's roads. Considering replacement tax discs (well, forgetting to renew them) cost British motorists more than £7 million a year, some might be glad to see them gone. However, the government now allows you to pay by direct debit and "velologists" (tax disc collectors) might pay a pretty penny to get their hands on one of the last ever discs, as long as you've kept it in top notch condition.

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network are both having issues (update: fixed!)

Excited to play the Destiny on PlayStation Network? You're not the only one, and demand as the game's beta opened its doors today seems to have the service stumbling. A message on the PlayStation Knowledge Center says PSN access is "Intermittently available" so if it's working, great but don't be surprised if you notice some odd behavior. Xbox fans shouldn't be too quick to point fingers though, since besides waiting another week to try out an early version of Bungie's next big game you may also experience issues with Xbox Live. The Xbox Live Dashboard points out problems for some users signing in or accessing the Video and Music services, but says there is a team working on it and promises another updated within the half hour. Since Nintendo Network appears to be running just fine, we can only assume which culprit is behind this.

Update: The PlayStation Network status has been upgraded to "online" so go forth and beta test freely. Meanwhile, Xbox Support says its sign-in issues are resolved, so you should be good to go there as well.

What you need to know about the neutrality of the network

The Internet! It is a really nice place, a mirror image of humanity, which includes the scope for our successes and failures as a kind of. We already knew WWE was bringing live-streaming of its wrestling matches to the Xbox One (and pretty much every other device you might have in your living room). For whatever reason, though, streaming wasn't actually available on the Xbox One back in February, when WWE first made the announcement. In any case, better late than never, right? The company just issued a press release letting us know it's finally opened up shop on Microsoft's new console. As promised, the service costs $10 a month with a six-month commitment, and brings access to live events, as well as videos on demand (think: classics). That's a small price to pay to watch Hulk Hogan body slam Andre the Giant over and over again.
