Google begins rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to Nexus devices

Google Android 5.0 Lollipop

It seems like we've been waiting forever, but Google has finally begun rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to Nexus devices. The search giant says that the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012 & 2013) and Nexus 10 are due to receive the new over-the-air update, joining the new Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 in running its latest and greatest OS. Google forum contributor David King warns that while the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (WiFi model) and Nexus 10 will see the update from today, the company hasn't yet begun rolling it out to the Nexus 4 and 3G/LTE versions of the Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013 models). If you're lucky enough to own one of the eligible devices, be patient: Google typically rolls out the update in waves, meaning it might take a couple of days to become available.

MSN's simpler, mobile-savvy homepage is rolling out to everyone

MSN circa 2014

Well, that was quick -- after just a few weeks in preview mode, the revamped MSN homepage is rolling out to everyone. You should see Microsoft's simple, desktop-like web portal in your browser sometime within the next three days. If you're using Windows devices, you'll also see updated Bing and MSN apps that draw on the site's many services; the Food & Drink app will keep track of your recipes, for instance. Windows Phone users get a few perks on their lock screens in the process. The Health and Fitness app will show pedometer stats if you're using a Lumia 630, 635 or 1520, while Weather will show your local forecast. You'll still have to wait for MSN apps on Android and iOS, but all the other pieces of Microsoft's grand vision are otherwise in place.

Google's new, image-rich Play Store for Android is rolling out now

Google Play Store with a Material Design flair

It looks like you won't have to wait long at all to check out Google's visually rich Play Store revamp -- it's rolling out now. The refresh doesn't appear any different on the surface, but a quick dive shows very different product pages that are clearly inspired by the company's multi-layered Material Design philosophy. Cover art plays a much larger role, and details like rating overviews and genres have been moved into easy-to-read icons. You might not like everything about the new storefront -- there's considerably more scrolling involved, for one thing. On the whole, though, it's both prettier and easier to understand at a glance. The revamp should reach your device within days, but Android Police has an installer if you just can't wait to see what's new.
