$200 turns your Galaxy Note 4 into a VR headset

Moments after Samsung announced that you could get a Gear VR as early as next month, Oculus released an all-important detail: its price. Oculus and Samsung are selling two versions of its Gear VR Innovator Edition -- the headset alone is $199, but the bundle that includes the Bluetooth gamepad will cost you $249. Also, do note that this particular Gear VR is designed for the Galaxy Note 4, which you will have to supply yourself in order to get that whole virtual reality experience. Seeing as a Note 4 will likely cost you around $300 on contract and upwards of $800 without, the total Gear VR experience is looking to be quite expensive -- starting at around $500 and almost $1,000 if you decide to go off-contract. That's considerably more than the $350 Oculus Rift DK2, though bear in mind that Oculus has yet to announce the consumer retail price of its Rift headset just yet.

The next Oculus Rift headset is 'Crescent Bay' and sports built-in audio

Oculus VR has a new headset. CEO Brendan Iribe showed the prototype, dubbed Crescent Bay, off today at the first Oculus Connect conference. It has built-in audio, it's lighter and packs 360-degree motion tracking. Iribe says that the jump between the new prototype and the previous developer kit (DK) is as dramatic as the jump between DK1 and the recently shipped DK2. Of course, it has a higher resolution screen and refresh rate, but the focus on this version though, seems to be audio. The headset sports onboard headphones that apparently can be removed if you'd rather use your own, and custom audio software (with help from the University of Maryland's RealSpace3D tech) to make "presence" much more convincing. "We're working on audio as aggressively as we're working on the vision side," Iribe said. Which makes sense, considering that sound is at least half of the experience for most entertainment.

Without software, though, hardware is basically just a pile of parts. Oculus' vice president of product Nate Mitchell also announced a few new details regarding the VR outfit's relationship with Epic Games and Unreal Engine 4. The two have worked together to create a new demo called Showdown, something Iribe called "as close to Call of Duty" as users would likely want for virtual reality. What's more, the demo will be available to try for anyone who's at the conference. New details about the indie-favorite Unity engine were spilled, too. The toolset is getting 3D audio and visual support in both the pro and free versions, which means that the amount of available VR games is incredibly likely to jump at an absurdly fast pace. We're on the ground at Connect and will be checking out everything that's worth seeing (which will probably be quite a bit!) so keep it tuned here for more coverage.

Oculus lets you tinker with the code and design of its first VR headset

Oculus VR's DK1 headset

If you've ever wanted to modify a virtual reality headset (or even create one from scratch), Oculus VR just gave you a big head start on your project. The Facebook-owned firm has opened up the code, mechanical elements and design for its first VR wearable, the Oculus Rift DK1. Provided you have the know-how and tools, you can now build upon everything Oculus learned in its early days about screens, head tracking and ergonomics. The source material won't help you recreate the more advanced technology of newer Rift kits or the Gear VR, but it should be worth a look if you're curious about the inner workings of immersive displays.

Samsung has a VR headset for mobile phones and tablets

Samsung is known for his Smartwatches of smartphones and tablets, popular smart TVs, and most recently, ubiquitous Galaxy. The Korean consumer electronics giant prepared himself on another big new category type: virtual-reality helmets. We're told by sources close to, Samsung has a virtual-reality helmet is not only in the works of the Mobile Division of the company, but was set to announced this year. The urgency should be a measure of flying oculus gap between Facebook and Morpheus project by Sony on the market. Some developers have already the first versions of the headset, which, operated at least in the phases of development – with Lighthouse-Galaxy devices (think: note 3, Galaxy S5). Consumption patterns, however, the power of generation will require unannounced phones Galaxy and tablets.

First start, what specifically are we? A device. We are talking about a helmet of the reality - based on the model of the oculus rift, but closer to the prototype under Android GameFace (see below) - virtual created labs by Samsung, powered Samsung products. This is not the project "Galaxy glass" rumor.
